STANDARD CRUISE ITINERARY

CARCASSONE TO BEZIERS ITINERARY

SUNDAY - MARSEILLAN
You will be met at The Metropole Hotel in Montpellier at 4pm. You will be escorted by minibus to Anjodi moored in the fishing village of Marseillan. Champagne welcome followed by time to relax or take a stroll around this lovely fishing village and along the towpath. Dinner aboard.

MONDAY - MARSEILLAN - AGDE
A morning visit and tour of the unique “Vermoutherie” of Noilly Prat, with a tasting. Optional pre-lunch dip in the Mediterranean! Cruise this afternoon across the saltwater lake of Thau, past the oyster beds and through the famous round lock before mooring in the old Greco/Phoenician fishing port of Agde. A chance late afternoon to explore the winding, mediaeval streets before dinner on board.

TUESDAY = AGDE - BEZIERS
This morning we cross the aqueduct over the River Orb and then ascend the 7-lock flight of Foserannes and join the 300 year old Canal du Midi in Beziers. After lunch we visit Beziers’ 13th Century fortified cathedral of Saint Nazaire, with a commanding view across the Pyrenees Mountains. Explore l’Oppidum D’Enserune, a pre-Roman hill-top settlement of Greek and Iberian excavations dating from 600 BC. Return to the barge and walk ashore to Domaine de Guery for a pre-dinner wine tasting of the full-bodied Corbieres at this 500 year old vineyard. Dinner on board

WEDNESDAY - BEZIERS - CAPESTANG
Morning cruise from Beziers via the World’s oldest canal tunnel at Malpas, to Capestang. An afternoon visit to Narbonne, a Roman Mediterranean capital where the Visigoth monarchs once lived. Enjoy a visit to the Archbishop’s Palace and Horreum. Explore the indoor market at the hub of this bustling canal side town, where you will have time to shop or simply absorb the relaxed atmosphere. Our mooring in Capestang this evening, is near the old stone bridge, a perfect setting for evening cocktails and dinner on board.

THURSDAY - CAPESTANG - LE SOMAIL
Morning cruise along arguably the most picturesque stretch of canal scenery in France to Argeliers and then along the historic Midi Canal to the delightful village of Le Somail. Late morning we depart for Minerve where we enjoy lunch in a local auberge. After lunch we explore Minerve, the ancient capital of the Minervois, which boast a 12th Century Cathar fort surrounded by deep limestone gorges. Besieged by Simon de Montfort in 1215, its hill-top location affords spectacular views. A fascinating recreation in miniature of the bloodthirsty Cathar rebellion and small museum complete the intriguing picture. Dinner on board.

FRIDAY - LE SOAMIL - HOMPS
Morning cruise along the tree-lined Midi Canal to the port of Homps. Fascinating afternoon tour of Carcassonne. Dating back to the Gallo-Roman era, this is the most complete mediaeval fortified city in existence today. With its 52 watchtowers, portcullis and extraordinary repertoire of defenses, it resisted the many armies that tried to storm this Camelot setting. Captain's Farewell Dinner aboard.

SATURDAY - HOMPS - BEZIERS
After Breakfast, depart from Homps by minibus and return to Montpellier by about 11am

NOTE:
In late autumn, Anjodi embarks on Roman architecture and wine appreciation cruises in the Camargue/Provence region. Visits include: Avignon, Van Gogh's Arles, and Chateauneuf du Pape. Golf, Tennis and Art charters are also available.

Beziers to Carcassonne
Sunday, Day 1 - Marseillan
You will be met at Holiday Inn (Metropole), Montpellier, at 4pm and escorted by minibus to Anjodi moored in the lake side fishing village of Marseillan, enjoying a view over the oyster beds and Noilly Prat vermouth. Champagne welcome followed by time for a relaxing stroll around this lovely fishing village before dinner aboard.

Monday, Day 2 - Marseillan to Portiragnes
This morning we enjoy a round of golf at Cap d'Agde (18 holes, 6,301m, Par 72). This golf course is located in a colourful landscape created by one of the world's most renowned architects, Ronald Fream. An outstanding and inventive course whose greens are jealously protected by bunkers that you will never forget. . Returning to the barge, we cruise from Marseillan to Portiragnes. Dinner aboard.

Tuesday, Day 3 - Portiragnes to Beziers
Begin the day with golf at Golf de St Thomas (18 hole, 6130m par 72). This 18 hole course offers various types of play: woods, hills, lakes and on some fairways a more classic approach. Following the golf, we visit Pezenas, a delightful village, mostly known for its associations with the French play write Moliere, who is said to have written many plays while staying there. We then cruise to the bottom of the Fonseranes 7 lock flight at Beziers where we continue along the 300 year old tree lined Canal du Midi. Dinner ashore

Wednesday, Day 4 - Beziers to Poilhes
This morning we cross the aqueduct over the River Orb and then ascend the 7-lock flight of Fonseranes before reaching the world’s oldest canal tunnel at Malpas. We arrive at the picturesque village of Poilhes for lunch. After lunch we play golf at Lamalou-les-Bains Golf Course (9 holes, 2,600m, Par 35). Located at the foot of Mt Carooux by the River Orb, this course with its three small lakes, is flat, wooded, short, technical and most enjoyable. Dinner aboard.

Thursday, Day 5 - Poilhes to Argeliers
A morning visit to Narbonne, a Roman Mediterranean capital where the Visigoth monarchs once lived. Enjoy the Archbishop’s Palace and Horreum. Explore the indoor market at the hub of this bustling town, where you will have time to shop or simply absorb the relaxed atmosphere. Return to the barge for a cruise along the shaded canal to Argeliers, stopping off en route at Domaine de Guery, a 500 year old canal side vineyard, for a pre-dinner wine tasting of the full-bodied Corbieres. Friday, Day 6 - Argelier to Le Somail

Morning golf at Golf de Carcassonne. (18 holes, 5800 m, par of 71)
Challenging water obstacles and bunkers make this a tactical golf course for players of all levels. A visit to the town of Carcassonne follows. Dating back to the Gallo-Roman era, this is the most complete mediaeval fortified city in existence today. With its 52 watchtowers, portcullis and extraordinary repertoire of defences, it resisted the many armies that tried to storm this Camelot setting. In the afternoon we cruise along the historic Midi Canal to the delightful village of Le Somail. Captain's Farewell Dinner aboard.

Saturday, Day 7 - Le Somail to Montpellier
After breakfast, depart from Le Somail by minibus to Montpellier. Expected arrival time 11am

Languedoc wine lovers cruise - For Groups of 6-8 passengers

Sunday, Wine cruise Day 1 - Le Somail
Passengers are met at the pick-up point by the Captain at 4pm and escorted by minibus to Anjodi, moored in the port of Le Somail. Champagne welcome followed by time to walk around the charming and historical village. Prior to dinner your wine guide will give you a brief introduction to the vineyards of the region before presenting your first wines. Dinner on board.

Monday, Wine cruise Day 2 - Le Somail to Argeliers
Fascinating morning tour of Carcassonne, the most complete mediaeval fortified city in existence today with its 52 watchtowers, portcullis and extraordinary repertoire of defenses, which resisted the many armies that tried to storm this glorious Camelot setting. On the way back to the barge, in the nearby village of Boutenac we sample Patrick Reverdy's internationally renowned Corbieres wine at the 17th Century Chateau LaVoulte Gasparets. Afternoon cruise along the 330 year old Midi canal to Argeliers through vineyards and pine trees. Dinner aboard.

Tuesday, Wine cruise Day 3 - Argeliers to Poilhes
This morning's excursion is to Minerve, which boasts a 12th century Cathar fort surrounded by deep limestone gorges. Besieged by Simon de Montfort in 1215, its hilltop location affords spectacular views. A fascinating recreation in miniature of the bloodthirsty Cathar rebellion and small museum complete this intriguing picture. During this afternoon's cruise to Poilhes, our wine guide presents a comparative tasting of the white wines currently being produced in the Languedoc region. Enjoy a wine-tasting of the full-bodied Corbieres at the 500 year old vineyard Domaine de Guery. Dinner aboard.

Wednesday, Wine cruise Day 4 - Poilhes to Beziers
This morning we cruise through the world's oldest canal tunnel at Malpas, mooring at the top of the flight of 7 locks at Fonseranes. During a visit to the state of the art winery at Mas de Chevaliere, created by the Burgundian winemaker Michel Laroche, we taste a selection of their delicious wines. Lunch and the descent of the lock flight follow, crossing the aqueduct over the River Orb. Dinner at a restaurant in Beziers.

Thursday, Wine cruise Day 5 - Beziers to Portiragnes
This morning's excursion is to Narbonne, a Roman Mediterranean capital where the Visigoth monarchs once lived. Enjoy a visit to the Archbishop's Palace and Horreum. Explore the indoor market at the hub of this bustling canal side town, shop or simply absorb the relaxed atmosphere. Before returning we pay a visit to the Chateau de Pech Redon to taste the wonderfully complex velvety wines produced from the nearby Montagne de la Clape. Cruise to Portiragnes where the Canal du Midi is at its closest to the Mediterranean and maybe enjoy an evening swim in the Med! Dinner aboard.

Friday, Wine cruise Day 6 - Portiragnes to Marseillan
After exploring the winding mediaeval streets of the old Greco/Phoenician fishing port of Agde, we sail through the famous round lock and onto the inland saltwater lake of Thau, with its oyster beds. Mooring in the fishing village of Marseillan, we go out to Pezenas, a delightful village, mostly famous for its associations with the famous French playwrite Moliere. Later we visit the acclaimed Pomerol wine co-operative, Gold Medal winners and leading lights in the Languedoc. Captain's Farewell Dinner aboard.

Saturday, Wine cruise Day 7 - Marseillan to Beziers
After breakfast depart by minibus to the arranged drop-off point.

On alternative weeks the cruise is in reverse direction.
