TO CHOOSE YOUR BOAT
The boat that you hire will be your home during the time of your cruise, it means that it is important to make the right choice.
All the boats offer a minimum standard of comfort such as:

  • Running hot and cold water
  • Shower
  • Toilet
  • Kitchen
  • Heating.

The extent and variety of equipment depend on the boat itself . The number of cabins indicated includes the lounge cabin which nearly always has a transformable double bed, e.g. a boat with 4 cabins includes a main lounge cabin and three separate cabins.
The number of berths, which will often influence your choice of boat, is indicated by the number which precedes the word "persons".

unpredictable events. There is an extra fee of €100 Payment at the departure base.

CAR TRANSFER :
If you do a one-way trip, you can have your car transferred from the departure base to the arrival base. The cost depends on the distance : from € 45 to € 121. It is better to book this service in advance. Transfer by bus, taxi or train can be planned. Please contact your agent for possibilities available. Shuttle with driver : A shuttle can transfer drivers or whole crew from a base to another. Cost : from € 15 to € 70 per head according itinerary…

INLAND WATERWAY MAP :
There is a board book on every boat, which gives you information on navigation. However you can order an inland waterway map in advance (when you book the boat) if you wish to prepare your cruise. You can have a map for every waterway. Important : for some routes, you will need 2 maps. For example for the one-way trip Pontailler-sur-Saône/Digoin, 2 maps are necessary : the Centre Canal and the Saône river.

BOW PROPELLER :
Some boats have a bow propeller. It is a small propeller in the stem of the boat which helps to steer laterally the bow of the boat. It makes operates easier. Nevertheless you need to use it carefully mainly in canals (mud and stones can be sucked
up along the canal sides). In case of breakdown during the cruise, it is often impossible to repair (a crane is often necessary to fix it).Due to the risks of the navigation, the bow propeller equipped boat you booked for ,may not be available the day of your departure. In this case, you won’t have to pay for the bow propeller. The bowpropeller, (concerning the boats wich
have one) is invoiced € 60 for 1 week and €50 for WE and MW at the departure. In case of breakdown, you can only get back the amont paid for the bow propeller.

Depending on boats, a security deposit is left when checking in. It covers the accidental damage excess, it is refundable at the end of the cruise. Important; the security deposit has to be left if a complimentary insurance is subscribed. In this case the insurance company will give the deposit back when an accident happens.

NAVIGATION RATE
The boat will be filled up before embarking. The fuel is then paid when returning the boat according to an hourly rate, which depends on the type of boat and the base. This rate covers oil and fuel consumption and depends on the engine power charges from
$0 to $0.00 per hour. On average ( cruising 30 hours in a week ). The cost changes with the fuel price. On certain bases, you will be able to buy navigation contract which is a fixed price whatever how many hours you cruise.

You can see how simple it is, the boat is driven using two controls:
A two position accelerator lever (forward and reverse) and a rudder to steer the boat.
That' s all. Imagine that you arrive at the first lock.
Lock manoeuvring is simple and not at all dangerous if we respect a few elementary rules.
Generally, the manoeuvre is controlled by the lock-keeper who will appreciate a helping hand from a crew member to handle the lock doors and sluices when these are not automatically operated.
Apart from lock-keepers and other people on a cruising holiday, you will be able to spot a variety of waterside bird life such as herons, kites, ospreys, wild duck, king fishers and wagtails.
Above all, you will encounter barge people and anglers.
Barge owners, who have practically disappeared on certain stretches of water, are friendly people but they do this work to earn a living.
So there is one golden rule : they always have priority.
Anglers do not always appreciate holidaymakers, who, in their opinion, stir things up a little too much, so if you leave enough leeway so as not to cut their lines, slow down a little and ask them the traditional question "Any bites?", then you'll make some new friends.
