TERMS AND CONDITIONS

HIRE RATES INCLUDE

  • VAT Tax of 13.5% (21% for rentals of 35 plus days)
  • Unlimited Mileage
  • Insurance
  • An inventory of the equipment necessary for you to enjoy your holiday will be furnished and
    checked with you at the start and end of the hire period. You are required to sign for these
    before and after your rental

INSURANCE EXCESS

  • Insurance excess is €750

HIRER / DRIVER

  • Driver(s) must be aged over 23 years to 75 years
  • Driver(s) must hold a valid full Irish driving licence for at least 3 years 24 months (European Licence)
  • Driver(s) are personally liable for all legal penalties during hire period
  • Driver(s) must provide two separate forms of personal identification on collection of vehicle otherwise hire will be invalidated i.e.: valid passport and driving licence.
  • Details of all additional driver(s) must be provided on collection of vehicle as above, maximum of one additional driver charged at €10 per day

HIRE PERIOD

  • Hire Period' refers to the dates agreed in the Detour Campervans rental agreement
  • Rental is charged on 24hr basis
  • Minimum rental period is 4 days for all campervans

AVAILABILITY & CONDITIONS OF SUPPLY

  • Whilst every effort will be made to supply the model ordered, we reserve the right to substitute an alternative vehicle should circumstances dictate.
  • Detour Campervans shall make every effort to ensure that the vehicle you reserve is available at the agreed time. If for any reason it is not available, we shall endeavour to make anothervehicle available without extra cost. BUT if this is not acceptable or another vehicle proves unobtainable, our liability is limited to the refund on any monies paid.
  • Detour Campervans will not supply a replacement vehicle in the event of crash damage to the vehicle, or any damage as a result of driver negligence
  • The company's camper van rental agreement is the sole contract for hiring the vehicle between Detour Campervans and the hirer(s), driver(s) and/or passenger(s)
  • The company takes no responsibility for any delay, loss, damage or injury that a hirer might experience no matter how it is caused or by whom.

COLLECTION AND RETURN

  • Pick up and drop off is at our depot.
  • Collection and return is between office hours (10.00- 17.00) unless out of hours collection or return is agreed in advance
  • Detour Campervans accepts no liability for clients disregarding transfer arrangements and for delays due to circumstances beyond our control.

Pick up and Drop Off
We have launched a new Pickup & Drop Off Service to Hotels & Hostels around Dublin city.

Any customer who is renting a campervan in Dublin can now have their campervan delivered to their accomodation. The facility is available to anyone who may want to spend a night or two in the capital before starting their roadtrip. When you are finished with your campervan, you can either arrange to have us pick up the campervan back at your accomodation, or if its handier we will meet you at the airport.

VIOLATION OF TRAFFIC LAWS AND REGULATIONS

  • Driver(s) are personally liable for all legal penalties and fees pertaining to any traffic violation infringements under the current Road Traffic Legislation applicable in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and the United Kingdom.
  • Detour Campervans will hold your credit card details for 21 days after the rental agreement finishes in case any traffic violation infringements are presented to Detour Campervans for your hire period. The driver(s) will still be liable for any penalties and fees received after this period.
  • Detour Campervans will notify the driver(s) of any speeding or parking fines and an administration charge for infringements incurred throughout the hire period.

USE OF THE VEHICLE
During the rental period, the hirers agree that the vehicle will not be;

  • Driven other than in a cautious, prudent and normal manner or used in a manner which could cause damage
  • Driven in a prohibited area
  • Driven by a person under the influence of alcohol or drugs or with a blood alcohol level in excess of that permitted by law
  • Driven by persons under the age of 25 or who is unauthorised to drive the vehicle as set out under the heading 'Driver details' of the Detour Campervans rental agreement
  • Used to carry more persons than is detailed on the rental agreement
  • Left with the ignition key in or on the vehicle while it is unoccupied (invalidates insurance)
  • Damaged by submersion in water or in contact with salt water
  • Used for any illegal purpose for any race, rally or contest
  • Used to carry passengers or property for hire or reward
  • Used to carry volatile liquids, gases, explosives or other corrosive or inflammable material
  • Driven on any road surfaces other than sealed / bitumen roads. Driving is not permitted on any beaches.
  • Please note there is a strict No Smoking policy in place. Any contravention invalidates the Fire Insurance cover making you personally liable in the event of the vehicle suffering fire damage and could result in a police prosecution.

ACCIDENTS
It is the hirers responsibility to complete the accident form where an accident occurs and to notify Detour Campervans. Where any person is injured the Police/Garda Siochana must be contacted. Failure to report an accident or damage to Detour Campervans can result in the loss of all or part of the security deposit. In the event of damage, breakdown or an accident NOT due to hirer negligence which deprives the hirer of the complete use of the vehicle, the liability of Detour Campervans shall be limited to the refund of rental charges for any days lost. Hirer is not entitled to a replacement vehicle in cases of excessive misuse or negligent damage.

CANCELLATION BY DETOUR CAMPERVANS
Detour Campervans reserve the right to cancel a reservation at the proposed commencement of hire as follows:

  • Named Driving License is not produced or valid in accordance with stated conditions
  • Failure to provide funds for insurance excess and caution bond by credit card only
    Over occupancy of vehicle
  • Address on driving license does not match billing address if additional proof of id is required
  • Hirers from outside UK must provide a valid passport and driving license as proof of id
  • Driver fails to show competency in test drive of vehicle.
  • Driver fails to show competency in test drive of vehicle

In these circumstances all moneys paid by the hirer shall be forfeited. Detour Campervans reserves the right to refuse to hire to any person, without stating cause. Booking deposit may be refunded in this case.

CANCELLATIONS

Cancellation Fees

If cancelled 20 – 29 days prior then

35% of gross rental
If cancelled 6 - 19 days prior 50% of gross rental
If cancelled 1 - 5 days prior 75% of gross rental
If cancelled on day or pick up or no show 100% of gross rental

CLEANING CHARGES

  • The hirer is liable to pay a cleaning charge which is will be refunded when the DetourCampervan is returned clean internally together with the toilet also emptied and cleaned. If the cleaning requirements are not met the cleaning charge of €100 is deducted from the deposit.
  • Cleaning Requirements:Refund is approved when each of the following has occurred: (Cleaning accessories are located in the cabinets or storage areas)

1.Fridge emptied and clean
2. Kitchen clean
3. Equipment is cleaned - An inventory of the equipment necessary for you to enjoy your
holiday will be furnished and checked with you at the start and end of the hire period. You are
required to sign for these before and after your rental.

ANIMALS AND PETS
Detour Campervans does not permit domestic pets or animals into their campervans. Guide dogs shall normally be accepted. Violation shall incur €100 extra cleaning cost

SMOKING
No, Smoking is strictly prohibited by law in the Ireland in hire vehicles.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q. How old do I need to be to drive a Detour Campervans?
A. You need to be 21* or older to hire the explorer campervan. The age limit to rent the Voyager & Venture campervans is 25.

* A loading for drivers aged between 21-24 will be added to the hire.

Q. Do I need a special drivers licence to drive a campervan in Ireland?
A. Once you have a drivers licence that is valid to drive a car then you can drive one of our campervans.Any non Irish or Uk driving licences are subject to a €10 per day charge.Our campervans are very similar to a car to drive which makes it easier to naviaget around some of Irelands more winding roads.

Q. How do I collect my vehicle?
A. Pickup can be arranged from our depot or a pick up/drop off service is available for people flying into Ireland, also pickup from city centre accommodation can be arranged.

Q. Can I park and sleep in the campervan wherever I want, or do I have to stay in a campground?
A. It is not always necessary to go to a camp ground. It is acceptable to stop in a suitable location as long as there are no signs saying "No Parking/Overnight Camping". Use common sense and courtesy. Please remember to take any rubbish for proper disposal later.

Q. Can I reduce my insurance excess?
A. Yes. You can reduce the insurance excess by 50% for any damage caused in a collision to either the campervan or third party property. See website for current costs.This does not cover the cost of damage to windscreens, tyres or wing mirrors. You can purchase our “Sensible” package.

Q. Are the campervans automatic or manual?
A. All Detour Campervans have a 6 speed manual transmission.

Q. How long will my batteries last?
A. All our campervans have a leisure battery installed which is independent of the engine battery and this battery charges whilst driving or if plugged into mains power. Using the house battery will not run the engine battery flat. The house battery will last up to 3 days from full without charging.

Q. What living and cooking equipment is included with the vehicles?
A. All Detour Campervans are fully equipped with cutlery, dinnerware, pots and pans, gas kettle and much more.

Q. What deposit do I pay on collection of the campervan?
A. Detour Campervans combine the Insurance Excess, Security Deposit into one deposit payment.A refundable deposit of €750 is payable for the rental of a Detour Campervan.The Deposit is payable by credit card only on collection.The amount will be debited from the card and is returnable within 7 working days on the following conditions:

Campervan returned to the agreed location, on the agreed date and time
Campervan returned with interior clean, waste tank emptied and the fuel tank full.
All items are returned at end of hire in clean and full working order as per the 'Departure Check list'.
A cleaning fee of €100 will be charged if the vehicle is not returned with the interior in a clean condition.

Q. How do I get collected from the airport?
A. We offer airport transfers to people who are flying into Dublin Airport. If you book an airport transfer with us, one of our customer service team will arrange the details of this with you prior to your arrival.

Q. What are Detour campervans office opening hours?
A. Our office opening hours are 9am to 9pm 7 days a week, outside of office hours just drop us a mail and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

Q. What are Detour campervans depot opening hours?
A. The depot is open 7 days a week for rentals during high season Collection and return of the campervan is strictly between 10am - 5 pm 7 days a week.

Q. What happens if I return the campervan late?
A. The latest time to return the campervan is 5pm. The charge for late returns is one day's rental.

Q. Can I collect my campervan outside of depot opening hours?
A. Early and Late collection of the campervan can be arranged prior to arrival. Early collections are from 7.30 -10.00. Late collections are from 16.00-19.30.

Q. How long does it take for the check in and check out process?
A. Allow 40 minutes for the check in and demonstration of camper van at our depot.
Allow 40 minutes for us to check the campervan once you have returned it to our depot.

Q. How will I know how to use the campervan?
A. Don't worry, lots of our campervan hire customers are first timers! Regardless of your campervan or motorhome knowledge, we complete a comprehensive check in and safety demonstration of all features of the campervan. We will show you how to use the camping gas, heating, electricity and of course how to empty the toilet!

Q. Are Motorway tolls included?
A. If you decide to take the Motorway to the destination be advised as some of the Motorways in Ireland have tolls on them.

Obviously what we would recommend is to take the more scenic route but if you have to be somewhere then the Motorway will get you there quicker.

The M50 which is the orbital road around the greater Dublin area is a barrier free toll road with the toll between the M3 & M4 exits.

There is tolls located on the following roads, remember that a campervan will only be charges at a car rate at these tolls.
